Ultrasound vs. MRI: spotting fetal gut twist risk before birth

NCT ID NCT03968107

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a third-trimester ultrasound can accurately find bowel rotation issues in fetuses that raise the risk of a life-threatening twist (volvulus). Researchers compared ultrasound results with fetal MRI, the current best method. The study included 77 pregnant women and aimed to improve early detection of these problems.
