Gentler transplant strategy tested for tough blood cancers
NCT ID NCT01760655
Summary
This study tested a two-step, lower-intensity stem cell transplant for patients with high-risk blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. The goal was to control the cancer by first using low-dose chemotherapy and radiation to prepare the body, then infusing donor stem cells to attack remaining cancer cells. Patients also received medications to prevent the donor cells from attacking their body.
