First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding a benzoyl peroxide gel to standard iodine cleaning could lower the risk of infection from Cutibacterium acnes bacteria during shoulder surgery. 156 patients were split into three groups: iodine only, iodine on skin and deeper layers, or iodine plus benzoyl peroxide before surgery. Researchers took bacterial samples during surgery to compare infection rates between the groups.
