Slope secrets: how uphill and downhill running changes Athletes' bodies

NCT ID NCT03946215

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looked at how running on different slopes (downhill, flat, and uphill) affects the heart, lungs, and muscle fatigue in well-trained runners. Eight athletes ran on a treadmill at various angles while researchers measured their oxygen use and fatigue. The goal was to see if downhill running uses less oxygen and causes less fatigue than flat or uphill running at the same speed.
