Toys vs. needles: study tests if hourglass or spiky ball calm kids during blood draws

NCT ID NCT06994637

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving children aged 4-6 a liquid hourglass or a spiky ball toy during a blood draw can reduce their pain, fear, and anxiety. 120 children were randomly assigned to use one of the toys or receive standard care. The goal was to see if these simple distractions make the experience less stressful for young kids.
