New ultrasound biopsy could spare lung patients from risky surgery

NCT ID NCT07305220

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether a less invasive, ultrasound-guided needle biopsy can safely diagnose interstitial lung disease (ILD) compared to standard surgical biopsy. Fifteen adults with ILD will receive both procedures to compare safety and sample quality. If successful, this approach could offer a safer, outpatient alternative for patients who cannot undergo surgery.
