First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tested whether numbing sprays (lidocaine or benzocaine) can reduce pain and improve satisfaction when inserting needles into the dialysis access site. Sixty adults on hemodialysis were randomly assigned to receive one of the two numbing sprays or a placebo spray right before the needle stick. Pain and satisfaction were measured immediately after the procedure using simple rating scales.
