New light technique could replace dye in gut surgery checks

NCT ID NCT06222645

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to see if the gut has good blood flow during surgery, using light instead of a dye. About 200 adults having planned gut surgery will be randomly assigned to get either the new light method or the standard dye method. The goal is to see if the new method works as well at preventing leaks where the gut is reconnected.
