New light technique could replace dye in gut surgery to prevent dangerous leaks

NCT ID NCT06222645

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests a new, dye-free way to check blood flow during gastrointestinal surgery. About 200 adults having planned gut surgery will be randomly assigned to either the new light-based method (iPPG) or the standard dye method (ICG). The goal is to see if the new method works as well or better at predicting and preventing serious complications like leaks where the intestine is reconnected.
