Less surgery may be enough for some thyroid cancers
NCT ID NCT07274605
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study compares two surgical approaches for people with early-stage thyroid cancer located in the isthmus (the bridge of the thyroid). One group will have only the tumor and nearby lymph nodes removed, while the other group will have the entire thyroid removed. The goal is to see if the less extensive surgery works just as well in preventing cancer from coming back, while improving quality of life. About 520 adults with low-risk thyroid cancer will take part.
