Less surgery may be enough for some thyroid cancers, new trial hopes to prove

NCT ID NCT07274605

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 03, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study compares two surgeries for people with early-stage thyroid cancer located in the isthmus (the middle part of the thyroid). One group will have a smaller surgery that removes only the tumor and nearby lymph nodes, while the other group will have the entire thyroid removed. The goal is to see if the smaller surgery works just as well at preventing cancer from coming back over three years. About 520 adults with low-risk thyroid cancer will take part.
