Could your thymus gland determine COVID-19 severity?

NCT ID NCT04716907

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looked at how the thymus gland, which produces immune cells called T cells, might influence COVID-19 severity. Researchers compared 85 hospitalized patients with and without COVID-19 to see if genetic differences in thymus function were linked to worse lung damage. The goal was to better understand why some people get very sick, not to test a new treatment.
