Thymus gland may hold key to COVID-19 severity
NCT ID NCT04716907
First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looked at 85 hospitalized patients to understand how the thymus—the organ that produces T cells—affects COVID-19 outcomes. Researchers examined genetic markers and CT scans to see if thymus activity influences pneumonia severity. The goal was to learn why some people get very sick, not to test a treatment.
