Smartphone heat camera tested to gauge burn severity in kids — but study never started

NCT ID NCT03702972

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study aimed to see if a small thermal camera that attaches to a smartphone could help doctors tell how deep a child's burn is. Deep burns often need skin grafts, but it can be hard to tell right away. The researchers planned to measure temperature differences between burned and healthy skin in children under 18 with second-degree burns. However, the study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
