Healing hands: simple touch may ease birth pain and fear

NCT ID NCT06426329

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tested whether therapeutic touch during vaginal birth can help reduce pain, anxiety, and feelings of a traumatic birth. Sixty-six pregnant women with low-risk pregnancies took part. Researchers measured pain, anxiety, and traumatic birth perception using standard scales. The goal was to see if a gentle, non-medical touch could make childbirth more comfortable and less stressful.
