Brain zaps for better breathing: new hope for COPD patients

NCT ID NCT06944626

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tested whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called tDCS can reduce shortness of breath and improve lung function in people hospitalized for a COPD flare-up. Thirty participants received either real tDCS or a sham (fake) version alongside standard physical therapy for three days. Researchers measured breathing, muscle strength, and daily activity levels to see if tDCS offers extra relief during these critical episodes.
