Brain scan study reveals tau patterns in rare dementia

NCT ID NCT02736695

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study used a special brain scan (PET) to look at a protein called tau in people with primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Researchers wanted to see how much tau buildup was in different parts of the brain and if it matched the type of symptoms. 81 adults with these conditions took part. The goal was to better understand the disease, not to test a treatment.
