Stroke recovery boost? new exercise circuit targets arm function

NCT ID NCT07428161

First seen Mar 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether a program called Task-Oriented Circuit Training (TOCT) can help stroke survivors improve movement and dexterity in their affected arm and hand. TOCT involves 15 different exercise stations that focus on practical tasks. The trial will compare TOCT to standard occupational therapy exercises in 24 adults who had a stroke at least one month ago. The goal is to see if this structured approach leads to better recovery of upper limb skills.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Task-Oriented Circuit Training (TOCT) - a program of 15 exercise stations

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new, structured exercise program to help stroke survivors regain arm and hand function.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage study with only 24 participants. Results may not apply to all stroke survivors, and the training may not be more effective than standard therapy.
