Prostate drug may prevent catheters after chest cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT05657990

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This early study tests whether Tamsulosin, a drug often used for prostate problems, can reduce the high rate of urinary retention in men aged 55 and older after chest cancer surgery. About 46 men will take the drug and researchers will measure how many can urinate on their own within 6-8 hours, how much urine they pass, and whether they need a catheter. The goal is to see if this simple approach can prevent a common and uncomfortable complication.
