Flomax may keep men from needing catheters after lung cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT05657990
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking Tamsulosin (Flomax) for a week before surgery can help older men urinate normally after thoracic cancer surgery. About 46 men aged 55 and older will take the drug and have their bladder checked after surgery. The goal is to see if fewer men need catheters or other help to urinate.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Tamsulosin (Flomax)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple way to prevent urinary retention after chest cancer surgery, reducing the need for catheters.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small feasibility study with only 46 men. It may not show a clear benefit, and results may not apply to all patients.
