First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested a culturally tailored education and support program called T1DES for Black young adults aged 18-30 with type 1 diabetes. The goal was to see if the program could reduce diabetes distress and improve blood sugar control. Forty-three participants received either standard diabetes education or the T1DES program over five sessions and were followed for six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Diabetes education and support intervention (T1DES)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a practical way to reduce diabetes distress and improve blood sugar control in Black young adults with type 1 diabetes.
- What could go wrong
- This was a small, early feasibility study with only 43 participants, so results may not apply widely. The intervention is behavioral, not a medical treatment, so benefits may be modest.
