New radiation method aims to save swallowing in head and neck cancer patients

NCT ID NCT05187091

First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to give radiation to people with head and neck cancer. The goal is to see if protecting the parts of the throat used for swallowing can help patients keep their ability to swallow after treatment. About 136 adults with certain types of head and neck cancer will be randomly assigned to get either the standard radiation or the new swallowing-sparing technique. The main measure is how well patients can swallow 6 months after treatment, based on a questionnaire.
