Why do women have heart attacks without blocked arteries? new study investigates

NCT ID NCT00798122

First seen Jun 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at women who have had a heart attack or unstable angina but do not have major blockages in their heart arteries. Doctors will use special imaging techniques, like IVUS and MRI, to find hidden causes such as cholesterol plaque in artery walls or problems with tiny blood vessels. The goal is to better understand why these heart attacks happen and help guide future treatment. About 50 women will take part.
