NCT ID NCT04092894

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested whether suvorexant, a sleep medication, could improve sleep and reduce delirium (sudden confusion) in 100 adults aged 60 and older recovering from heart surgery in the intensive care unit (ICU). Participants received either suvorexant or a placebo for 7 nights. The main goal was to see if suvorexant reduced nighttime wakefulness after falling asleep, measured by a brain monitor. The study also looked at total sleep time and days without delirium.
