Surgery may strengthen bones in seniors with mild hyperparathyroidism

NCT ID NCT01087619

First seen Apr 12, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at whether surgery helps people over 65 with mild primary hyperparathyroidism (high calcium levels) compared to just monitoring them. The main goal was to see if surgery improves bone density and lowers fracture risk. 102 participants were randomly assigned to surgery or follow-up, and bone density was measured at the hip and spine.
