Summary
This large trial tests a platform called SurgeCon, designed to improve how emergency departments (EDs) manage patient flow. The goal is to reduce wait times, shorten the time to see a doctor, and lower the number of patients who leave without being seen. Over 400,000 people visiting four EDs in Canada will be included, and the results could help make emergency care more efficient.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
SurgeCon (a quality improvement platform including workflow restructuring, patient-centric environment, and e-health management)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a proven way to cut emergency department wait times and reduce the number of patients who leave without being seen.
What could go wrong
This is a pragmatic trial testing a complex intervention across multiple sites, so results may vary by location. It is not a drug or device trial, so the impact is limited to operational improvements.
