Can a weekly call save lives? new trial aims to stop suicide after ER discharge

NCT ID NCT05837026

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether extra support from a community crisis group (Samaritans of Boston) can help people who recently left the ER for suicidal thoughts. About 300 participants will either get weekly calls or texts plus standard care, or standard care alone. The goal is to see if this outreach reduces suicide attempts and helps people stick with their mental health treatment.
