Heart scarring on MRI may decide who gets a lifesaving device

NCT ID NCT07415642

First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looks at 720 people with a weakened heart muscle (non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy) and scarring seen on MRI. It tests whether implanting a defibrillator (ICD) reduces the risk of sudden death compared to medication alone. Participants with scarring are randomly assigned to get an ICD or not, while those without scarring are tracked separately. The goal is to better identify who truly needs an ICD.
