Can botox plus physical therapy ease muscle stiffness? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07160699
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study will test whether combining botulinum toxin (Botox) injections with physical or occupational therapy helps people with spasticity—uncontrollable muscle tightness and spasms. Thirty adults will receive personalized treatment from a team of experts, and researchers will measure if they achieve their own goals and improve movement. The study uses an N-of-1 design, where each person acts as their own control, to see what works best for each individual.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Botulinum neurotoxin type A (Botox) plus physical or occupational therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could show that a team-based approach with Botox and therapy helps people with spasticity reach their personal goals and move better.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early study with only 30 people and no comparison group. Results may not apply to everyone, and the benefit over standard care is not yet proven.
