Can common drugs stop radiation side effects? new trial aims to find out

NCT ID NCT06494111

First seen Feb 15, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether two different drug combinations—pentoxifylline with vitamin E, or pravastatin alone—can prevent or reduce lymphedema (swelling) and fibrosis (scarring) caused by radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. About 295 adults who are about to receive radiation will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments or standard care. The goal is to see if these drugs can safely lower the risk of long-term side effects.
