Stem cell breakthrough tested for deadly transplant complication
NCT ID NCT03847844
Summary
This study tested whether adding umbilical cord stem cells to standard steroid treatment could better control acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in transplant patients. Researchers enrolled 26 patients who developed moderate to severe GVHD after bone marrow transplants. They compared stem cell infusions plus steroids against placebo plus steroids to see which approach worked better at reducing symptoms and improving survival.
