Aggressive treatment trial battles rare, Fast-Moving breast cancer

NCT ID NCT00003042

Summary

This study tested whether giving very high doses of chemotherapy, followed by a patient's own stem cells to 'rescue' their immune system, could help people with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer called inflammatory breast cancer. It involved 41 patients with stage IIIB disease. The goal was to see if this intense approach could kill more cancer cells and improve survival rates.
