Aggressive treatment trial battles rare, Fast-Moving breast cancer
NCT ID NCT00003042
Summary
This study tested whether giving very high doses of chemotherapy, followed by a patient's own stem cells to 'rescue' their immune system, could better treat a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer called inflammatory breast carcinoma. It involved 41 patients with stage IIIB disease. The goal was to see if this intense approach could improve survival and reduce the chance of the cancer returning.
