New spray could stop radiation burns in cancer patients

Summary
This study tests whether a superoxide dismutase (SOD) spray can prevent severe skin reactions (radiation dermatitis) in 140 head and neck cancer patients receiving high-dose radiation. The spray works by removing harmful free radicals produced during treatment. Patients will be checked weekly for skin changes, and the goal is to reduce the number of people who develop painful, peeling skin or worse.
