Blood test may let rectal cancer patients skip surgery

NCT ID NCT07292285

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether a blood test that looks for cancer DNA (ctDNA) can help doctors decide which patients with stage 2 or 3 rectal cancer can safely avoid surgery and just be watched closely. About 200 adults will be followed to see if the test improves detection of cancer regrowth. The goal is to make the "watch and wait" approach more reliable.
