Summary

This study tests whether a smartphone app called PA4Health can help African American women who are not very active increase their physical activity. Fifty women will use either the app or receive wellness text messages for 8 weeks. The app includes goal setting, motivational messages, education, and a chatroom for peer support. Researchers will measure how much participants like the app and whether their activity levels change.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
PA4Health smartphone app
What this could lead to
If successful, this app could offer an engaging way to help African American women become more physically active.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply widely. The app may not lead to lasting changes in activity levels.
