Sigh of relief: new breathing strategy may cut lung risks after heart surgery

Summary
This study tests whether adding occasional deep sighs to standard breathing machine settings can reduce serious lung complications in the first week after heart surgery. About 686 adults having planned heart surgery will be randomly assigned to either the sigh strategy or usual care. The goal is to see if this simple change lowers the risk of issues like pneumonia or the need for extra breathing support.
