Sugar levels in brain fluid may predict shunt need after aneurysm

NCT ID NCT06486909

First seen Apr 05, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study aims to confirm whether high sugar levels in the fluid around the brain and in the blood soon after a brain aneurysm rupture are linked to needing a permanent shunt. Researchers will measure sugar levels daily in 160 adults who have a temporary drain placed. Participants will be followed for 6 months to see who needs a permanent shunt and how their recovery goes.
