Fewer proton sessions after mastectomy: safe and effective?

NCT ID NCT02783690

First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tested whether a shorter course of proton therapy (15 sessions) is as safe as the standard longer course (25 sessions) for women who had a mastectomy for breast cancer and need radiation to nearby lymph nodes. 88 women participated. The goal was to see if the shorter schedule reduces side effects and complications without sacrificing effectiveness.
