Shorter seizure prevention after childbirth may be just as safe

NCT ID NCT00344058

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving magnesium sulfate for 12 hours instead of the usual 24 hours after delivery could safely prevent seizures in women with mild preeclampsia. 200 women at term were randomly assigned to either the shorter or longer treatment. The goal was to see if the shorter course worked just as well while reducing exposure to the medication.
