Summary

This study is testing whether taking a supplement containing a beneficial gut bacterium (Akkermansia muciniphila) and a plant compound (berberine) can improve how the body uses insulin in night-shift workers. Night-shift work often disrupts sleep and eating patterns, raising the risk of obesity and diabetes. The study will involve 200 healthcare and industrial workers in Austria and Denmark, who will take either the supplement or a placebo for 12 weeks, then switch after a break. The main goal is to see if the supplement improves insulin sensitivity, with secondary checks on gut health, inflammation, and sleep quality.
