New Shape-Shifting catheter aims to improve heart rhythm treatment

NCT ID NCT07301190

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This early study tests a new catheter that changes shape to better treat persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat). The catheter uses electrical pulses to scar small areas in the heart and block faulty signals. About 40 adults with this condition will receive the treatment under general anesthesia. Researchers will check for serious side effects within 7 days and see if the scars last at least 3 months.
