Heart attack survivors may benefit from diabetes drug, study finds

NCT ID NCT06903754

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a daily pill called an SGLT2 inhibitor (dapagliflozin or empagliflozin) can help people without diabetes who had a heart attack and a procedure to open blocked arteries. The goal was to see if the drug lowers the chance of being hospitalized for heart failure, having another heart attack, or dying. About 450 patients took part, and the results may offer a new way to protect the heart after a heart attack.
