Could a common diabetes drug prevent kidney failure?

NCT ID NCT06528405

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether SGLT2 inhibitors, drugs already used for diabetes and chronic kidney disease, can help people with acute kidney disease (AKD). AKD occurs after a sudden kidney injury and can lead to permanent kidney damage. The trial will include 264 adults with AKD, with or without diabetes, and measure changes in urine protein and side effects over time. If successful, this treatment could slow or prevent progression to chronic kidney disease.
