Summary
This study looks at whether giving critically ill patients red blood cells from a donor of the same sex (sex-matched) versus the opposite sex (sex-mismatched) affects their chances of survival. Over 11,000 adults in intensive care who need a transfusion will be randomly assigned to receive either sex-matched or sex-mismatched blood. The main goal is to see if there is a difference in death rates within 30 days between the two groups.
