Blood transfusion breakdown: could donor sex be the key to saving lives?

Summary
This study looks at whether giving critically ill ICU patients blood from a donor of the same sex (sex-matched) versus the opposite sex (sex-mismatched) affects their chances of survival. Over 11,000 adults who need a blood transfusion will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. The main goal is to see if sex-matching lowers the risk of death within 30 days.
