Scientists test nutrient cocktail to revive power plants in septic shock cells

NCT ID NCT04288635

First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding specific nutrients to cells from septic shock patients can fix damaged mitochondria, the cell's energy factories. Researchers will take blood samples from 55 adults in the ICU and test these nutrients in the lab. The goal is to understand if this approach could one day lead to new treatments for organ failure caused by septic shock.
