Sniff away symptoms: aromatherapy trial targets dementia distress

NCT ID NCT07234357

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether daily exposure to a blend of essential oils can improve mood and behavior in people with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia, and also reduce stress for their caregivers. About 200 patients and their caregivers will try aromatherapy at home for at least 5 minutes per session. The goal is to see if this simple, pleasant approach is something people will stick with and whether it helps with symptoms like anxiety and depression.
