New study aims to solve PFO stroke treatment puzzle for seniors

NCT ID NCT07479147

First seen Apr 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at people over 60 who had a stroke linked to a common heart hole called PFO. It compares three treatments: closing the hole, taking blood thinners, or using antiplatelet drugs. The goal is to see which option best prevents another stroke. About 400 older adults will join, and researchers will track their health for several years.
