Poke away the pain: Self-Acupressure trial targets period cramps

NCT ID NCT07409337

First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether women aged 18-30 with painful periods can reduce their pain and premenstrual symptoms by pressing on specific body points themselves (self-acupressure). Half the 120 participants will learn real acupressure points, the other half will use sham points. They will practice during their premenstrual and menstrual periods for about six months, and researchers will track pain levels, symptom severity, and painkiller use.
