Could a simple STI test stop preterm births?

NCT ID NCT07458802

First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study will see if testing and treating pregnant women for chlamydia and gonorrhea can lower the chance of having a baby too early (before 37 weeks). About 2,000 women in Botswana will join, with half getting the usual care and half also getting STI tests early and late in pregnancy. The goal is to find out if this approach is effective and affordable for preventing preterm birth and other problems.
